It’s the New Year 2023, and this is my first post on my website in quite some time. I’ve found it increasingly difficult to keep my website updated. I just returned from a month-long trip on December 18th, 2022, and I can see that the Lunar Chinese New Year is just around the corner.
I had originally planned to write about my travels as I was on the road, but I didn’t. With the world changing so rapidly, there’s no telling what will happen next. There’s a chance that another round of border lockdowns may occur, and my wife another month-long trip may happen in March 2023.
I recently had my first encounter with a generative AI model called ChatGPT. It was an impressive experience and it has set new expectations for how AI can be used in the future. I can see that XBB is rising in the United States, and China has just opened its borders. It will be interesting to see how the world changes after the Lunar Chinese New Year.
I’ve come to realize that the need to shift entirely to digital journaling has become more pressing each day. As the world becomes increasingly digital, I’ve been exploring different options to find what works best for me. I don’t believe it’s right to entrust my personal data to other people’s cloud and infrastructure and rely on them for data backup. Instead, I believe it makes more sense in the long term to take ownership of my own data, while also ensuring that I have a reliable data backup strategy in place.
One of the advantages of digital media is its ability to allow for instant global sharing and communication. This is the beauty of digitalization, it helps me to eliminate the need for physical storage space in the future and also organize my data.
The year 2023 promises to be an intriguing one, as I anticipate the increased use of practical AI and robotics, including robotic process automation, in various workplaces. I hold a positive outlook towards AI and robotics as they are significant advancements in emerging technologies, marking a transition towards the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) or Industry 4.0.
I anticipate a significant number of new ventures in AI and robotics to arise in response to current trends, as is often the case. However, it remains to be seen how many of these ventures will be successful in the long run, only time will tell.
Perhaps I am fortunate to be alive during a time of great technological advancements, I have witnessed the rise of IBM x86 in computing and the success of Intel and Windows, followed by the emergence of Apple Mac OSX and its products such as the iPhone and iPad. I have seen the evolution of internet speed from data fax modem to current 5G mobile wireless. I have adapted to the shift from physical book reading to digital reading and from handwriting journaling to digital journaling.
