  • To host personal data in the right way

To host personal data in the right way

To host personal data in the right way, I am thinking, as it really does not make any sense for hosts own data over others place except for their own premises. Internet bandwidth has become so widely available, maybe to deal with unavailability due to power down or server down matters, but the rest should be as good as it can provide.

I foresee more application service providers (ASP) that based on the model and charge and attempt to lock down the user will eventually go away, as it really has very little value to offer. And users are more concerned for the privacy and data with them, instead of data hijacked by the service provider, so you have to pay them whether you use it or not.

Just like me, I own my personal name as a domain, because I think it makes sense to have it with me all the time. It became personal branding and I really do not find it comfortable to put most of it over social media, where there are a lot of advertisements, as I do not have control of what is shown with what I write. As such, I somehow keep moving content and until I think maybe I should really local host it myself, in particular I really do not have a lot of content and it is worth it to be hosted somewhere else. But for the hassle of taking care of my own machine, it really is not something worth my time dealing with, better I use my time in a better way. So finding a reasonable hosting vendor and putting a website for them to take care of is the only way to be way going, I think.

Another issue is regard the template, changing of the template or having a specific theme, some work for a specific topic is another area for concern, as it can not be used for the lifetime without change, this is why some balance for the template and universal access is needed.

One more key challenge is the moving toward rich media, and the storage size and need will rise at unusual speed. The old generation of text based will eventually become the past, how to transit and make sure the content continues, this is why making use of open standards is less risky and owning your own domain means data ownership with me all the time.

Obviously not all things are suitable to write and express to public, private stuff how to keep it in the right way, it is something worth thinking about before executing further change.

To host personal data in the right way, be something you have to think carefully as the cost is later on, the more data you need to migrate, the costly it will be. So it matters for outsource or in-source.
